What is ClickyMaps?
An interactive browser for historical and current topographic maps of Canada and the United States. Click any grid square to open the map PDF. Use the dropdown to switch between map sets and scales.
Navigating the Grid
Pan and zoom the map like any web map. Grid squares appear as you zoom in. Click a square to open its PDF in the panel on the right. Right-click for a quick-info popup with download and compare options.
The Grid button (toolbar) cycles between three modes: All (show every sheet), Radius (only sheets near your cursor), and None (hide the grid). Use Zoom to Grid to fit the current set on screen.
Searching
Type a sheet ID (e.g. 072O01, 36.167) to jump straight to it. Type a place name (e.g. Banff, Yosemite) to geocode via OpenStreetMap. Partial block IDs (e.g. 072) highlight the whole block.
Comparing Maps
For historical HTMC sets, right-clicking a grid square opens a filmstrip showing all available editions of that quad, newest first. Click an edition to view it, or click β Compare to open it alongside the current map in a split view. Use the Swap button to swap panels.
